Lawn Mower Troubleshooting

No matter what sort of lawn mower you might be using, every now and then you might be experiencing some technical difficulties with it, due to its wear off. Using your lawn mower often is going to make some of its stationary parts or the operator function improperly every now and then. Luckily for you, there are some basic lawn mower troubleshooting tricks you could keep a close eye on, in case they happen to you.

If there is actually smoke coming out of your lawn mower’s engine, you need to first check for any fuel leakage; namely, make sure that there is no oil or gas leaking from the tank; make sure you tighten the worn parts that are causing the tanks to leak. Also, analyze the color of the smoke; if it is of white color, make sure you check the oil level and determine if there is no extra oil that should not be there; drain it and make sure it the oil is fresh, and not one or two seasons’ old. Open up the throttle and see if the engine is running at a fast speed; if this does not happen, and the engine continues to run slow, you might need to run down a specialized store and buy a new engine.

Lawn Mower TroubleshootingIf your lawn mower is experiencing some startup difficulties, you first need to check for fuel. Look at the tank and see if it’s full; replace it with fresh gasoline, if the one you are using is older and set the throttle to “start” or “run”. The battery could also be tested using a special tester in order to determine if maybe it needs to be replaced. If this does not prove to be your particular issue, you should also go ahead and verify the cables in order to make sure they are secured correctly and also safe. You could also handle the loose spark plug and tighten it carefully, if you need to, and clean the carbon off it, if this is the case.

Side note: Try to tap the side of the carburetor for a while in order to unstick the float, especially if you have been out of town for months and so one has been using the lawn mower while you were gone.

Finally, check for any grass and leaves clogs in the deck and use long screwdrivers or sticks in order to clean the debris safely. These are the very basic lawn mower troubleshooting ideas you need to consider.

I have pressed the primer bulb several times, pulled the rope handle several times with no reaction. I have checked the fuel, spark plug, and oil, all seams fine. I had the machine to a dealer last year because it was doing the same thing. They tuned it up and it ran about four times and now it is doing the same thing, they did say it was probably the carburetor that was causing the problem. Do you have any suggestions what I can try to resolve this problem?

Thank-you for your help.

The gas is dripping out of the gas tank. Has anyone ever heard of this? Could there by a hold in the gas tank?

my yard machine push lawn mower runs for approx 5 minutes then stalls out.
i have opened the gas cap to check vent, but the engine still stalls out.
i do have gas in the tank and the plug wire is firmly attached.
i do have clean engine oil and the mower does not seem to be encountering any excessive loads.
it starts no problem after about 10 minutes as if no problem occured, then it stalls out again after approx 1.5 minutes.
what is the most likely problem?
